Back to Comparison ChartFor men and women concerned about pattern hair loss, it is important to buy the best hair loss treatment product available. One of hair growth product choices is Spectral DNC, which contains a number of substances including the drug minoxidil. While much research has been conducted on minoxidil, we are unaware of any research specifically proving utility for the proprietary composition in Spectral DNC against pattern hair loss, either in men or women. On the other hand, HairGenesis® is supported with published medical research specifically showing that our proprietary formulation actually works.
The DS Laboratories line of products contains a minoxidil-containing topical treatment as well as a shampoo known as Revita.
A one-month unit of Spectral DNC is advertised online for $44.95. A single unit of Revita shampoo is advertised for $30.95.
DS Laboratories advertises its ultimate Spectral DNC-L product as one that "protects against damage, slows hair loss, improves follicle health, and grows new hair longer, thicker, and faster than any other product".
TDespite the seemingly impressive sounding language in their claims, we are unaware of any peer-reviewed published research specifically proving safety and efficacy for the proprietary admixture contained within the DS Laboratories Spectral DNC line against pattern hair loss. Nor have we found any peer-reviewed and published scientific research testing Spectral DNC in men experiencing hair loss or women experiencing thinning hair.
Due to the highly potent nature of minoxidil, particularly in 5% form, warnings describing potential negative side effects are generally published when this drug is dispensed. Common sense as well as regulatory edict dictates that this is true regardless of the brand name attached to the drug. Moreover, in the absence of definitive proof, such as that which supports HairGenesis®, it may be difficult for any product line, including this one to substantiate that their proprietary product will actually prevent hair loss and/or thicken one's hair.
Unlike the drug-based hair loss treatments, HairGenesis® has never been linked to negative side effects of any kind. Unlike the non-drug based hair loss products, HairGenesis® has been proven safe and highly effective under IRB-monitored, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical research, as well as university-based formal research, now demonstrating a dual-mechanism of action against inflammation in the hair follicle and pathologic DHT. HairGenesis® is the only non-drug hair loss treatment formula supported with proven research published in the peer-reviewed medical and scientific literature (pubmed.com).

At the present time, January 2009, no non-pharmaceutically derived hair loss treatment is technically required by the FDA to undergo placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical research. Nor is such research required to be submitted for validation and publication by and within the peer-reviewed medical literature. HairGenesis™ has undertaken these difficult, costly and time-intensive steps in the interest of demonstrating, for the benefit of consumers, its safety and efficacy under the most scientifically objective and stringent conditions. Among the non-drug based hair loss treatments, in successfully achieving these milestones, HairGenesis™ stands alone. Product Names are the trademarks of the companies represented by those products.
