In an effort to unmask a scam presently being perpetrated online by various unscrupulous purveyors of hair treatments, Hair Genesis® intends to invest time and energy to shutting down fake hair loss product comparison websites. Because the hair loss product consumer is in a stress-filled situation, he or she is susceptible to these kind of bad business-like tactics. Taking advantage of the emotionally distraught consumer, more than one hair product marketer has made it their practice to publish fictitious hair loss product comparisons on various websites. These often go under the title "Hair Loss Treatment Comparison" or Hair Growth Product Consumer Review" etc. A cursory examination leads the site visitor to the mistaken conclusion that these comparisons are generally legitimate. However, as we'll now explain, they aren't.
Here's how the ploy works. A hair loss treatment marketer will enlist a third party to set up a website with a url that gives the impression that it is an objective consumer review entity. The website is published with text and images that appear to compare a number of hair loss treatment product brands, including the treatment brand which is actually behind the so called consumer review website. Totally concocted data is presented as valid and the sponsoring brand is shown to outperform a list of competing hair growth treatment products.
Website links lead to the product brands which are compared. But often the links to the competing brands are deliberately rendered non-working. Always though, the links leading to the sponsor brand go through without difficulty. By this dubious method, hair loss product consumers are tricked into buying something that they mistakenly believe to have outperformed other competing brands.
There are variations on this scam, but the outcome is almost always the same, i.e. to generate sales through deception. These so called hair loss product comparison sites almost always make it nearly impossible to determine who is actually behind the website's publication. However, common sense dictates that the company that wins these kind of fake comparison reviews almost certainly are involved with the scam.
As regular readers of this blog will recognize, Hair Genesis® has neither the inclination nor the need to rely on this kind of smarmy used car salesman-like tactic. Our product formulations are supported with actual peer-reviewed, published scientific research (e.g.http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/2011/985345/). Because so few companies in this industry feel obligated to invest precious resources in testing their products under empirically-valid conditions, objective proof such as that supporting the Hair Genesis® line is a rarity. In point of fact, it is much easier to lie and cheat and steal. Equally distressing, the FDA and FTC are otherwise occupied in shutting down products that cause actual physical harm, so they lack the resources to chase the scam artists discussed in this blog post. And this is why the problem exists.
However, because the mission statement of Hair Genesis® is to provide actual value to the hair loss consumer, we will take steps to shine the light of truth on this ugly problem. More on how we intend to "smack the weasels" in future blog posts.
