Are We On The Cusp Of Curing Baldness?

Last week, ABC News reported that  "Japanese scientists have successfully regenerated hair on a bald mouse, bringing hope to more than 50 million Americans suffering from hair loss."  The story went on to say "In a breakthrough study, researchers at the Tokyo University of Science extracted stem cells from hair follicles in normal mice, and implanted them into the skin of the bald animal. Most of the hair grew back within two to five weeks, and underwent normal growth cycles, meaning the strands grew back even after they were pulled out. They established connections to muscles and nerves underneath the skin, just like natural hair."

This is a story about hair.  Hair lost.  And hair regained.  Though our company's present focus is non-surgical, botanically-based hair therapy, this is a story about surgical hair transplantation.  In the 1990's I was a partner in a surgical hair transplant clinic.  My partner, Dan Didocha, a gifted surgeon who still practices today, would fly into Denver for one week per month to perform hair restoration surgery on patients.  During the rest of the month, we would do pre and post-operative care.  And we were also involved in a number of IRB-monitored scientific studies.
